2017 Events and Appearances

January 18th, Blue Horizons Author Event, Fort Morgan, Colorado —I’ll be running writing workshops with the fabulous middle school writers of Fort Morgan as part of the Blue Horizon’s author program.

February 3rd, CCIRA 50th Anniversary Conference, Denver, Colorado —I’m presenting 2 sessions at this incredible conference. One on Using Apocalyptic Fiction to Engage and Empower Students, and another on teaching Wild Mind Writing Games. I hope to see you there.

February 8th, Brighton High Skype Visit, Colorado —Looking forward to talking with the Brighton High book club.

April 1st, Colorado Teen Literature Conference, Denver, Colorado I’ll be leading a workshop session on Apocalyptic and Dystopian Fiction. See the CO Teen Literature website for details. This conference rocks!

April 19th, Fort Collins High School Author Visit, Fort Collins, Colorado —I’ll be at FCH all day running workshops and talking with students, so if you’re an FCH student or teacher, I look forward to meeting you.

August 25th, The Last Panther Book Launch Party! Everyday Joe’s Coffee House, Fort Collins, CO —Come celebrate the release of this book with me. The event is free, open to the public, and good for all ages. Some light food and drinks will be provided. I hope to see you there! 5:00-6:30pm.

September 15th, Dunn IB Elementary School Author Visit —I’ll be at Dunn all day giving presentations and running workshops. If you’re a Dunn student, parent, or teacher, I look forward to meeting you. 

September 16th, Kid’s Lit Fest at The Publick House, Fort Collins, CO, 5:30-7:30pm—Come to the Wolverine Farm and Letterpress Publick House in Old Town Fort Collins for an evening of crafts, book giveaways, food trucks, and some story-telling with me, and amazing MG authors Laura Resau and Melanie Crowder. A great free event for readers ages 8 and up! 

September 20th, Columbine Elementary School Books for Change Author Visit —I’ll be at Columbine all day giving presentations and running workshops. If you’re a student, parent, or teacher, I look forward to meeting you.

September 23rd, Author Tea with me and Anna-Marie McLemore, Old Firehouse Books, Fort Collins, 11:00am If you don’t know Anna-Marie’s books, you need to check her out. She’s amazing. And if having tea with us in the coolest bookstore in NOCO isn’t enough, Old Firehouse is going to provide some pastries too. Please stop by, see us, and get a signed book to give to friends or family for the holidays.

September 30th, Colorado Writing School, Niwot, Colorado —Looking forward to this intensive writing conference where I’ll be leading an afternoon session on the Art of Conflict. October 21st, Castle Rock Writers Conference, Castle Rock, Colorado —Looking forward to this incredible writing conference where I’ll be leading afternoon session on plotting novels. November 8th, Windsor Middle School Teacher Workshop —I look forward to working with Windsor teachers on ways to inspire writing and creativity in students during this after school workshop.

February 29th, Ignacio Middle School Author Visit, Ignacio, Colorado I’ll be at Ignacio Middle School all day, working with all grades and the teachers. If you’re an Ignacio student, teacher, or parent, I look forward to meeting you.

April 2nd, Colorado Teen Literature Conference, Denver, Colorado — I’ll be leading a workshop session on writing, reading, and teaching graphic novels. See the CO Teen Literature website for details.

April 22nd, Northern Colorado Writers Conference, Fort Collins, Colorado —I’m teaching a Master class on Earning the Character Transformation. See the NCW website for details.

June 8th, CSU Writing Project, Fort Collins, Colorado —I’m going to be there Wednesday morning and afternoon, running workshops on writing stories, and poetry games. This is a fantastic summer writing camp for young writers.

June 16th- 26th, Antioch University, Los Angeles, California I’ll be taking part in the Antioch summer residency from the 16th to the 26th. Looking forward to seeing all my writing friends, colleagues, and mentees there. This is an incredible Low-Res MFA program if you’re interested in getting an MFA in Fiction, Creative Nonfiction, Poetry, or Writing for Young People.

September 17-18th, RMC-SCBWI, Golden, Colorado —I’ll be presenting two sessions at the 2016 RMC-SCBWI Conference this year. Both sessions are taking place on Sunday. One is a two hour intensive on character and plot, and the other is a one hour interactive session on endings. See the RMC-SCBWI Letters and Lines Conference website for details. This is a fantastic conference for anyone interested in writing (or illustrating) picture books, chapter books, middle grade books, or young adult novels. I hope to see you there!

 

2015 Events and Appearances

January 12th -16th, Whidbey Writers Workshop, Whidbey Island, Washington —The Whidbey Writers Workshop has invited me out as guest faculty. I’ll be running workshops on story structure, world building, character development, and taking your characters to the end of the line. Visit their Website for details. 

February 2nd, Littleton Elementary School, Littleton, Colorado —Littleton Author Visit for grades 3rd-5th.

March 2nd, KRFC, Fort Collins, Colorado KRFC interview aired. Catch me reading and answering questions on the radio. 88.9.

March 27th – 28th, Northern Colorado Writers Conference, Fort Collins, Colorado —I’ll be leading two sessions: one on Friday the 27th on developing characters, and one on the 28th on developing conflict. See the NCW website for details.

September 12th, Comic Con! Fort Collins, ColoradoMeet me at Fort Collins’s first ever Comic Con. I’m going to be participating in a panel on creating comics, and I’ll be hosting games and giveaways at the Old Firehouse Table.

September 21st, RMC-SCBWI, Fort Collins, Colorado —The local (Northern Colorado) chapter of SCBWI has asked me to present and run a workshop at their September meeting. I’ll be talking about creating graphic and hybrid texts. If you’re an SCBWI member, I hope to see you there (Mulligans, 7-9pm).

October 16th-18th, Northern Colorado Writer’s Retreat, Estes Park, Colorado —Writing in the Rockies. It doesn’t get any better than this. I’m doing a workshop on character and plot on Saturday, and delivering the Keynote speech on Saturday night. Hopefully, I’ll come up with something worthwhile to say. But even if I don’t, the setting and company (they’re bringing out some fantastic editors, agents, and writers) will make it all worthwhile. December 9th, Reading and Publishing Q & A, Barnes and Noble, Fort Collins, Colorado —The brilliant novelist Dan Robinson and I will be giving short readings from our work and answering your questions about writing and publishing at the Barnes and Noble on College Avenue in Fort Collins. The event is sponsored by NCTE, and book sales will go to support future English teachers. Things will get started at 6:30pm, but drop in anytime between 6:30pm and 8:00pm to meet us, learn more about writing and publishing, and get a signed book for a Holiday gift.
